Graves Family will Honor Late Son by Supporting Transplant Families & Promoting Donation
Like the donor families Nebraska Organ Recovery serves, Matt and Melissa Graves are turning their tragedy into an opportunity to positively impact others.
Following the death of their son while on vacation in Florida, the Graveses embarked on a mission to honor Lane.
The Lane Thomas Foundation was formed to “serve as a beacon of hope in the depths of despair, to create a strong base of support for families in crisis.”
The Foundation’s primary objective is to provide financial support for non-medical expenses to families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants at Nebraska’s transplant centers. In addition, the Foundation will work to educate living donors on their opportunity to save the life of a child and bring awareness to parents about organ donation. Nebraska Organ Recovery is excited to partner with the Foundation in this mission.
The Foundation’s first event, Lane's Light, will take place this weekend. Nebraska Organ Recovery is sponsoring a Christmas tree that will be decorated with ornaments representing children who have given the gift of life through organ or tissue donation this year. The tree will be auctioned off to benefit the Foundation.
On November 12th, the public is invited to view all the sponsored trees and take photos with Santa at the Hilton Omaha. Lighthouse ornaments, the mark of the foundation, will be distributed and a free-will offering will be available.
